I downloaded WAMP to my laptop today and when I aliased a directory I received a 403 Forbidden error when attempting to navigate to it. The problem is solved by editing the alias’ configuration (conf) file. In this case, the offending bits were lines 4 and 5 below:
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride all Order allow,deny Allow from all
Which I changed to this:
<Directory "c:/www_root/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride all Require all granted </Directory>
To access the conf file of your alias do the following:
- Left-click on the WAMP icon in the task bar
- Roll over Apache…
- then Aliased Directories…
- then roll over the troubled alias and select “Edit Alias”
From that point if your alias looks like the first example given above then change it to match the second example.
Problem solved, my aliased directories are working once again.
